Match Report Dartford Girls’ Academy 4-1 Oaklands Wolves

Preparation was key as the Girls’ Academy made it seven wins in seven after this top-of-the-table clash.

Oaklands Wolves travelled to Dartford and were hit by an electric first half for which they had no reply.

The team started brightly, going long early on due to the windy conditions and making the most of their pace up front.

Izzy Edgar put a brilliant ball into the box, which came off the post, with Isabella Taffs making it 1-0.

The lead was doubled soon afterwards with the same pair at it again. This time, Izzy crossed for Isabella Taffs to slot in.

The Darts weren’t finished and made it 3-0 with Ellie Sterling hitting a shot from 30 yards that slipped through the keeper to cross the line.

The opposition pulled one back before half-time, but the message was to stay switched on.

The second half turned into a feisty affair, with the older opposition trying their best to turn it around.

However, Darts held on and added to the tally through a third assist from Izzy, who found Olivia Ajose in the box, who finished well.

Manager George Kingdon said: “We just got everything right. We spoke to the girls all week about preparation. We pulled them in slightly earlier this week, had breakfast together and had a debrief while we ate.

“There was a great vibe, lots of positive attitudes around the whole squad. We had access to the first team changing rooms. It was all these little 1 per cent things that all added up.

“Isabelle set up three and every ball that came off her foot was perfect. She was causing mayhem down the flank.

“We’ve worked hard on finishing, so it was pleasing to score four goals, a couple could have come off the training ground.

“The midfield three really impressed me. They worked hard, battled hard and ran their socks off.

“In the second half, we just stood strong. We defended well and dominated the ball at times.

“It was a collective win and a big one. I was very proud of the girls, they all played really well.”
