Will has been the voice on the free live commentary the Club offers for around three years, bringing his own, unique take on the action on the pitch to the ears of many supporters who can’t make the games.
After securing a new job in the education sector, his work load has now led him to make the difficult decision to hang up the mic.
We know he will go on to be a success in any career he chooses and he will be greatly missed by the media team and everyone at the Club.
During the summer, the Club partnered with The University Campus of Football Business in Wembley (where Will was originally a student), receiving more than 20 applications for media positions it advertised. We interviewed 10 of these and offered positions to two new assistants, Laura and Myles, who spent pre-season shadowing the team to get them prepped for the season. We have spent time behind the scenes determining their passions and strengths, with Riley Finch – who joined us around a year ago – stepping into commentary duties over the past month and doing an excellent job.
We ask supporters to note and understand, that commentary at every game is not always possible and sometimes out of our control. There have been several grounds that haven’t had the necessary space or facilities for us to be able to put on commentary, while Riley bravely attempted to cover one game standing up outside in the rain and in a bar area! Through no fault of his own, this obviously didn’t afford the coverage we’d like.
We are also aware there have been some recent problems with static interference. While mics and cabling were replaced, the issues have re-emerged and we have ordered further equipment.
We are now in the process of interviewing other potential candidates for media roles to ensure commentary is offered for the majority of remaining matches where possible. This will also help us to continue providing news and features from around the Club through our many media streams, that include the new website, new newsletter, social media, programme and more.
In light of this, we apologise in advance that there will be no live commentary this weekend, but we expect Riley to be back for the next home game, with cover brought in, trialled and trained as quickly as possible.
We hope you will join us in thanking Will and wishing him the best of luck in his future career. Thank you Will.
