Geoff Ashburn, Ground Maintenance and Treasurer and Chairman of DFCSA

What is your connection to the club?

From September I will be Dartford FC Supporter Association’s Chairman and Treasurer and I help with maintenance at the ground.

What do the roles involve?

From the maintenance side, I do a bit of everything from fixing the goals to putting up netting at the golf course to stop balls going over! I’ve also been known to get on the roof to carry out repairs. Anything that needs doing really.

The Supporters Association work as liaison between the supporters and the club. So obviously, we work very closely with the club, sort of the middleman between the fans and the directors. Really, it’s about helping it all working harmoniously together and being the voice of the supporters.

How did the positions come about?

I knew the chairman Steve Irving through work and he got me involved with the club. I was just selling Match Day 50/50 and Golden Goal tickets to begin with and that in turn that led me to get into the Supporters Association. When I retired five years ago, I wanted to keep active so started helping out around the ground and it has sort of grown from there.

How long have you been a supporter for?

15 years now.

Any favourite memories?

Probably beating Welling United in 2011/12 to get promotion to the top tier of non-league.

Do you have a favourite player out of the new squad?

I like Samir Carruthers and Olly Box, so one of those two.

What does the club mean to you?

I’m very passionate about the club. It means a lot to me. I’m involved in the away day travel as well, which is a really important role in getting the fans to the away grounds. But there’s a great social aspect too, so having a drink or curry with some of the other fans.

Thoughts for the season?

I’d like to think we can make the play-offs and get back up as soon as we can.

Ady’s putting together a good team, it’s a young team, but they seem to be bonding well which showed on the pitch in the first match. But it’s going to take a bit of time.
