Jacob Bland arrived at Princes Park last month, having left Bowers & Pitsea. The 21-year-old had signed for The Bowers on a duel registration with Chelmsford City, but left The Clarets at the beginning of the season after they made the step up to full-time.

His career began at Southend United, where he came through the U18s and into the First Team. His football journey saw him have loan spells with Great Wakering Rovers and Concord Rangers.

Having trained here during the summer, the energetic midfielder is now a Darts’ player and he’s delighted to be here…

“I signed for Dartford because it’s a big club, where I believe that big things can happen. My goal is to help us get promoted back into the National League South and, with the quality we have in the team, I think we have a high chance of achieving that this season.”

In what ways will Jacob be contributing towards that ambition? What does he bring to the club?

“I see myself as a number eight, and I believe that the way I see the game sets me apart from others. I’m strong on the ball and bring fitness, energy, and calmness to an already strong squad. However, my aerial duels can be considered as a weakness.”

Like many young footballers, Jacob’s ambition is to play in the EFL one day. In what ways does he keep himself fit, especially considering that Dartford is a part-time club?

“In addition to training here, I attend the gym four times a week and I also do a run occasionally too. A key for me is to always make sure I have my rest days in-between times, as well as making sure I’m properly prepared for matchdays.”

What made him decide to play football and then choose the sport as a career?

“Football is something I’ve grown up with and loved. It’s my love for the beautiful game that keeps me motivated, and that drives me to always want to improve myself and play better.”

He continues, “Someone once told me to always play with confidence. That’s advice that I try to live by and, even though I haven’t really faced any big challenges yet, I always try to enjoy myself.”

That last statement is an important one that Jacob has learnt during his career so far. And since his arrival at Dartford, he’s proving to be a vital addition to Ady Pennock’s side, having made five starting appearances in the last five games.

Whilst he continues to adapt to his surroundings and grow as a Dartford player, does he have any advice for the generation looking to follow in his footsteps?

“Always be yourself and play your game.”

That pretty much sums up this young midfielder. He’s a man of few words, preferring to let his football do the talking.
